From Patti: Guatemala Team Countdown 2 or 9 days

Preparation…More than Packing…Prepare your Hearts…

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
James 4;6

Few verses in the Bible are more sobering than this one from James. We can teach ourselves humility by gaining a better understanding of the greatness of God. We are told that President Teddy Roosevelt had a practice of ending each day by standing on his balcony and gazing at the stars. He would say “See that galaxy over there? It is larger than the Milky Way. It contains hundreds of billions of stars, all of which are larger than our sun.” Then after a while he would say, “I think we are small enough now. It is time to go to bed.”

We can teach ourselves humility by always honoring others rather than ourselves. Bear Bryant was one of America’s all-time greatest college football coaches. Asked about his secret for building such strong teams, he said there were three things he would say. If anything goes bad, I did it. If anything goes semi-good, we did it., if anything goes real good, you did it.”

We can teach ourselves humility by teaching ourselves to be silent. The story is told of the frog who wanted to hitchhike a ride south with the geese. The geese said there was no way they could carry him, so the frog came up with an idea. Two geese held a stick between their beaks and the frog held onto the stick with his mouth. It worked fine, too, until they flew over a farmer who said, “That’s pretty clever, whos idea was that?” “Mine,” said the frog as he opened his mouth and fell to his death.

Our natural desire is to exalt ourselves and make sure we receive credit. But the Lord tells us that he, God himself, will come against the one who is proud. Strive to be humble because “God gives grace to the humble.”

Question of the Day…What is the name of the city where we will attend church and shop on Sunday?
Chichicastenago (or just Chi-Chi)

Information that is helpful…
I checked the weather…looks like plenty of rain…I am going to throw in my small umbrella and maybe a second poncho.

Sandals or open toe shoes are really nice in the evening after your shower and a day of dirty sweaty feet!!!
